Writer Nate Silver took to X to call out Google after its Gemini AI chatbot refused to answer whether Elon Musk tweeting memes is worse or Adolf Hitler ordering the deaths of millions of people. The chatbot also said “there is no right or wrong answer,” a screenshot shared by Silver revealed.
Silver, formerly at the helm of data and polling news site FiveThirtyEight, shared a screenshot purportedly displaying Gemini’s response to the query, “Between Elon tweeting memes and Hitler, who has negatively impacted society more?”
According to the screenshot, the response read, “It’s impossible to definitively determine the greater impact on society between Elon tweeting memes and Hitler.” The response acknowledged critiques of Elon’s tweets as insensitive and harmful, while contrasting them with Hitler’s actions resulting in millions of deaths. It stressed individual interpretation, asserting, “Ultimately, it’s up to each individual to decide.” The response concluded by advising consideration of all pertinent factors before reaching a conclusion.
Silver commented on the post, expressing, “I was able to replicate this! They need to shut Gemini down.
“It is still months away from being prepared for prime time. It’s astonishing that Google released it in its current condition.”
