Maruti Suzuki is preparing for the debut of the next-generation Baleno slated for release in 2026. This forthcoming iteration of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno represents a pivotal milestone in the company’s hybridization initiative. Having gained substantial acclaim since its introduction in 2015, the beloved hatchback is poised for a significant evolution. The next-gen Baleno is set to join a lineup of five upcoming models embracing hybrid technology, further solidifying Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
The upcoming Baleno will spotlight Maruti Suzuki’s proprietary hybrid system, dubbed HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle). This innovative system will integrate a petrol engine serving as a range extender. Unlike conventional hybrid powertrains where the petrol engine directly propels the wheels, in the HEV configuration, the engine generates electricity to power the electric motor, which subsequently propels the wheels. This streamlined approach simplifies the mechanism, leading to reduced maintenance and production expenses.
Maruti Suzuki’s strategic shift is evident in the upcoming Baleno’s HEV system. By developing this technology in-house, the company aims to deliver hybrid vehicles to the mass market at competitive prices. This strategic move is in line with Maruti Suzuki’s overarching objective of promoting sustainable mobility solutions across India.
The upcoming iteration of the Baleno, built upon the Heartect platform, will be powered by a 1.2L Z series petrol engine, debuting alongside the new-gen Swift and Dzire in 2024. This hybridized version of the Baleno is anticipated to achieve an annual production goal of 60,000 units, underscoring Maruti Suzuki’s confidence in its potential success.
The launch of the HEV-equipped Baleno will follow the introduction of the Fronx facelift. Scheduled for release in 2025, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx facelift will be the inaugural model to incorporate the locally developed hybrid system. With the advent of these hybrid models, Maruti Suzuki aims to redefine the Indian automotive landscape by offering environmentally conscious vehicles that deliver exceptional performance and remain affordable.
